An avid shooter and Life Endowment member of the NRA, Member of the Single Action Shooting Society,
John Saville AKA
" The Cobia Kid" has been etching glass for more than ten years. First as a hobby then as a source for custom work ranging from a single piece to 500 coffee mugs for the NJ Division of Aviation.
As an employee of a Jewelry Store, he learned to engrave small jewelry pieces using a pantograph engraver , Learning minor jewelry repair, and watching the hand engraver complete more intricate designs. It was then that his interest in hand engraving was sparked.
After leaving the jewelry store, he found ways of expressing his interest in creating art by working in wood, carving decorative birds, and earning several ribbons in competition
Along the way, he purchased equipment and learned the art of egg carving, using a high speed rotary tool with dental bits. Also during this time he learned the art of sand etching using a micro sand blaster to create unique custom articles and logos.
In 2005, John Saville realized a life long dream of learning the art of hand engraving after reading an advertisement for the GRS Engraving School in Emporia Kansas.
At the urging of his wife Marie who has always supported his endeavors, he enrolled in the basic engraving course , took his first air flight to Kansas and began the process of learning to engrave, which as any engraver will attest to , is a process that never ends.
